Blinken urged Aliyev to unblock the Lachin Corridor for commercial traffic

YEREVAN, JANUARY 23, ARMENPRESS. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, in a telephone conversation with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev, urged him to immediately unblock the Lachin Corridor for commercial transport, ARMENPRESS reports the State Department said in a message.

He emphasized that the threat of a humanitarian crisis in the Lachin Corridor undermines the peace prospects between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Secretary of State urged Aliyev to redouble his efforts in bilateral peace negotiations with Armenia. He also raised concerns about human rights in Azerbaijan.

Since December 12, 2022, Azerbaijan continues to keep closed the only highway connecting Artsakh to the world, the Lachin Corridor, citing false environmental reasons.
