Blockaded Nagorno Karabakh faces healthcare crisis: Hospitals keep surgeries on hold, ICU patients include children

STEPANAKERT, DECEMBER 30, ARMENPRESS. Planned surgeries are still suspended in hospitals of Artsakh (Nagorno Karabakh) because of Azerbaijan’s closure of the only road connecting Artsakh with Armenia, the Artsakh Ministry of Healthcare said in a statement.

It added that 12 children are hospitalized in neonatal and intensive care departments at the Arevik hospital.

Another 12 patients are under intensive care at the Republican Medical Center. 5 of the 12 are in critical condition. “Doctors are doing everything possible to stabilize the condition of the patients. The Ministry of Healthcare of Artsakh is taking all possible measures to properly overcome the situation resulting from the blockade,” the ministry said.
