2023 to mark 100th anniversary of Armenian cinema

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 26, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport has revealed the top events planned for 2023.

Notably, an event will be organized on the 850th anniversary of the death of Nerses the Gracious (Nerses Shnorhali) which has been included during the 41stGeneral Conference of UNESCO in the organization’s 2022-2023 calendar commemorating anniversaries and honoring eminent personalities. Other events honoring eminent personalities include the anniversary of composer Aram Khachaturyan.

The 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Armenian State Committee of Cinema is also included in the UNESCO calendar.

The Armenian culture ministry applied to UNESCO for celebrating the 100th anniversaries of birth of Charles Aznavour and Sergey Parajanov in 2024.

“One of the most important events is the 100th anniversary of the Armenian cinema,” the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Ara Khzmalyan told ARMENPRESS. “We will emphasize international cooperation and international contacts on this occasion. We also plan to organize a festival dedicated to Sayat Nova at the Haghpat Monastic Complex. We have a preliminary agreement with our Georgian colleagues. There will be participants from Georgia also. 2023 also marks the 85th anniversary of renowned artist Artavazd Peleshyan, the 85th anniversary of foundation of Armenian animation. We will focus on these important events as well,” Khzmalyan added.

Days of Armenian Culture will be organized in various countries during 2023.
