YEREVAN, DECEMBER 21, ARMENPRESS. Iran is emphasizing the importance of humanitarian issues regarding the situation in the Lachin Corridor, the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri told reporters.

“Iran has always presented its stance regarding the developments in the Caucasian region, and they have always been clear. Iran has always emphasized territorial integrity and respect towards internationally recognized borders. The importance of humanitarian issues regarding issues pertaining to the Lachin Corridor has numerously been mentioned and emphasized,” the Ambassador said.

He added that during any step in the region the humanitarian issues must be a priority and the best option for solving all issues are negotiations. “Only that’s when humanitarian issues are focused on and the issue of the population’s health is prioritized. We hope that the situation will be resolved as soon as possible and that everything will be alright,” the Iranian Ambassador said.

On December 20, an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council took place where the issue of Azerbaijan’s blockade of Lachin Corridor was discussed. The Lachin Corridor is the only connection between Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia and the rest of the world. It is blocked by Azerbaijan since December 12.

Many countries called for the opening of the Lachin Corridor and adherence to the 2020 trilateral statement in their speeches at the UNSC meeting.
