Shushi theater, now on tour, holds first post-war play and actors get stranded after Azeri blockade of Nagorno Karabakh

GYUMRI, DECEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. The Mkrtich Khandamiryan State Theater of Shushi held its first play since the 2020 Nagorno Karabakh War. The play was set in Gyumri, Armenia.

After the war, the Shushi theater is functioning as a touring theater.

The first play of the theater was the Golden Chick, directed by Leonid Harutyunyan – the artistic director of the theater.

Moreover, two theater actors had traveled to Gyumri from Artsakh for the performance and are now stranded due to the Azerbaijani blockade of Nagorno Karabakh.

Shushi theater director Ashkhen Harutyunyan told ARMENPRESS that the two actors planned to return to Artsakh on December 18.

The Shirak provincial authorities are providing support for the accommodation of the two stranded actors.

Azerbaijan is keeping the Lachin Corridor blocked since December 12. The Lachin Corridor is the only connection of (Artsakh) Nagorno Karabakh with Armenia and the rest of the world. Azerbaijan also cut off gas supply to Nagorno Karabakh on December 13 but restored it on December 16. The road remains blocked.
