Former Deputy Mayor of Yerevan arrested on suspicion of misconduct involving waste management

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. A former Deputy Mayor of Yerevan is under arrest on suspicion of abuse of power during his tenure from 2012 to 2018, the Anti-Corruption Committee said in a statement.

The former Deputy Mayor of Yerevan, identified by authorities only by initials V.N., is suspected of misconduct in supervising the waste management process of the city and approving the payment of more than 3 billion drams to Sanitek LLC and its affiliated companies for waste disposal services which factually were not implemented.

The suspect oversaw the selection process of a waste management operator and approved the bids which factually did not meet the requirements, authorities said.

In addition, in 2015 and 2016 Sanitek International and a family member of the suspect signed a contract on renting land owned by the latter.

V.N. is facing criminal charges amid the ongoing investigation.
