Prosecutors seek forfeiture of over $191 million in suspected illegal assets under 18 cases

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 3, ARMENPRESS. As part of the stolen asset recovery function, the general prosecution filed 18 motions to court seeking the forfeiture of $191,500,000 worth of suspected illegally acquired assets in total.

The trial of the former governor of Syunik Surik Khachatryan, who is suspected in having illegal assets worth 19 billion drams, will begin in a month at the Anti-Corruption Court, the prosecution said.

In another major case, the prosecution seeks the forfeiture of nearly 17 billion drams worth of suspected illegal assets owned by Gagik Beglaryan, the former mayor of Yerevan.

The stolen asset recovery law, officially known as the Law on Confiscation of Illegally-Obtained Assets, was adopted by parliament in 2020 April.
