YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 19, ARMENPRESS. Vice Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Hakob Arshakyan received today Ambassador of Japan Masanori Fukushima, the Parliament’s press service said.
The meeting was also attended by members of the Armenia-Japan parliamentary friendship group Tsovinar Vardanyan, Heriknaz Tigranyan and Lusine Badalyan.
Welcoming the Ambassador, Hakob Arshakyan offered his congratulations on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Japan.
“Armenia and Japan have managed to develop close friendly ties, high-level political dialogue and cooperation based on common values. We are hopeful that the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations will further strengthen our bilateral ties in political, cultural and other areas”, the Vice Speaker said.
He briefed the Ambassador on the latest Azerbaijani attacks on Armenia. Mr. Arshakyan said that there is credible evidence that Azerbaijan is preparing for a new attack, by expanding the geography, including from Nakhijevan, conducting an encroachment against Armenia’s territorial integrity.
Hakob Arshakyan expressed his concerns over the Nanmadol typhoon, as a result of which around 4 million people were evacuated, and expressed hope that the situation will be solved soon.
The Ambassador of Japan thanked for the reception and for the detailed information. He said that he will transfer the information about the situation of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh presented by the Vice Speaker to the Japanese government.
Masanori Fukushima said Japan and Armenia have warm partnering relations, but there is a major potential for cooperation which is still not utilized, adding that practical steps should be taken on this direction.
He said that it’s time to boost the cooperation in political, economic, educational, cultural and other areas.
Both sides attached importance to strengthening the Armenian-Japanese cultural and scientific ties.
A number of agreements were reached over the upcoming visit of Vice Speaker of Parliament Hakob Arshakyan to Japan.
