Position of Russian Church towards Armenian Genocide is invariable

YEREVAN, JANUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. Position of the Russian Church towards the Armenian Genocide is invariable. Spokesman of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia Deacon Alexander Volkov announced about this in a statement for Armenian news agencies.

“In an interview for “Rossiya” TV channel His Holiness Patriarch Kirill spoke about the terrible and unprecedented situation of the Christians in Syria and Iraq. In that context, His Holiness brought the example of the history of the Ottoman Empire, where there were periods that the imposed order ensured relative security and stability in the lives of religious minorities.

The absence of such an order, as happened 100 years ago in the Ottoman Empire, leads to tragic events in modern Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. This is the reason we call the current developments genocide. The position of our Church towards the Armenian Genocide has been clearly mentioned several times in the numerous official statements and pastorals of the Patriarch. There are brilliant examples demonstrating our position towards the issue: the top level participation of the Russian Orthodox Church in the key events of the Armenian Apostolic Church, participation of His Holiness in the consecration of Armenian Church in Moscow, the visit of the delegation of the Russian Church to Yerevan in 2015 to participate in the remembrance events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Genocide.

Position of the Russian Church remains invariable. We always protected that position transparently and publicly in international, inter-Christian and inter-religious platforms and will continue to do that”, “Armenpress” reports the statement reads, which was disseminated by the press service of the Holy See.
