Construction of nuclear power plant in Armenia is not on agenda

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 7, ARMENPRESS. No serious activities will be performed related to the project of building a new nuclear power plant in Armenia.

Yervand Zakharyan, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia said the aforementioned during his briefing with the journalists.  “If there is another possibility of deadline extension in the future, new studies will be made in that regard. The construction of a new nuclear power plant is a very laborious project requiring serious financial means”, “Armenpress” reports, Zakharyan said.

According to him, the construction of a new nuclear power plant will lead to tariff prices a lot higher than at present as big investments would be made and the state would be obliged to make repayments.
