Armenia's President appoints new Ambassador to Iraq

YEREVAN, JULY 3, ARMENPRESS. According to the decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Karen Grigoryan was appointed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to Iraq (resident in Baghdad). The Mass Media and Public Relations Department of the President’s Office informed “Armenpress” about this.

The diplomatic relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Iraq were established in 2000. At the same year Armenia has opened its Embassy in Baghdad, and the Embassy of Iraq was opened in Yerevan in 2001.

Because of the beginning of the war in 2003 Armenia and Iraq have interrupted the activities of their Embassies. Armenia has reopened its Embassy in Baghdad on October 2010.

From 2004 to 2008 Armenia provided humanitarian assistance to Iraq, participating with limited contingent of de-miners, doctors and drivers in peacekeeping activities.
