Renovation of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant to start in 2017

YEREVAN, JULY 2, ARMENPRESS. The renovation works of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant will start in 2017, which will enable to extend the NPP’s operation period until 2026. This was stated by the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Armenia Yervand Zakharyan in his interview with the journalists. He noted that the NPP’s renovation will cost about $ 300 million by preliminary estimation. "The works may last more than 6 months, which may have an impact on the price of electricity as well. But the Government has plans to build in the coming years the 2nd block of Yerevan TPP, which will be more beneficial in terms of price" - reports “Armenpress”, citing Zakharyan.

The decision on extending the NPP’s operation period until 2026 was adopted by the Government on September 13, 2013.
