Armenia’s decision to join Eurasian Union has military-political content: Armenia’s PM

YEREVAN, MARCH 29, ARMENPRESS. Our political decision to join the Customs Union and the Common Economic Space, and Eurasian Union in future, has distinct military-political and security content as well. As reports “Armenpress”, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan stated this at the course of the second economic conference titled “Armenia-Customs Union: Opportunities and Challenges”. The conference is organized by the Republican Party of Armenia. 

Among other things, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan underscored: “It’s noteworthy that during the recent 5 years qualitative changes took place within the framework of the CSTO and the CSTO has formed such structures and made political decisions, which substantially strengthen our security guarantees.”

The second economic conference titled “Armenia-Customs Union: Opportunities and Challenges” held by Armenia’s ruling party launched. The conference organized by the Republican Party of Armenia brought together economists, representatives of various political powers, as well as guests from the Eurasian Economic Committee Board.

As reports “Armenpress”, reports by the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Tigran Sargsyan, the EEC Board Member Tatiana Valovaya, the Chairman of the Committee on Financial-Credit and Budgetary Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia Gagik Harutyunyan, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Armenia Davit Sargsyan, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan, and others were introduced to the participants.

In the result of the negotiations on September 3, 2013 in Moscow the Presidents Sargsyan and Putin confirmed the aim of the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation in the direction of further development of economic integration processes in the Eurasian territory. In that context the President of the Republic of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan announced about the Armenia's decision to join the Customs Union and the necessity of implementation corresponding steps for that aim and in future about participating in formation of the Eurasian economic union.The President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin expressed his support to the abovementioned decision of Armenia and informed about the readiness of the Russian side to support the process.
