Secretary of Armenia's National Security Service to discuss situation on border with CSTO Secretary General

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 1, ARMENPRESS. Armenia regularly informs the CSTO Secretary General about the situation on the border. The Secretary of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia Arthur Baghdasaryan stated this at the course of the press conference held on February 1. Also, the Secretary of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia Arthur Baghdasaryan emphasized that the CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha reacted to the tensions on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border for a number of times. As reports “Armenpress”, Arthur Baghdasaryan stressed: “We cannot expect the CSTO to react to any incident, notwithstanding how reprehensible and tragic those events are. It’s their right to react.”

Among other things the Secretary of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia Arthur Baghdasaryan underscored that CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha will pay a visit to Armenia and they will discuss the issue once again.

In addition the Secretary of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia underscored that notwithstanding the fact that Armenia wants the Minsk Group Co-Chairs to condemn Azerbaijan’s provocative statements, the Minsk Group will not do that, as their role is to establish peace and not to criticize any of the sides. According to the Secretary of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia Arthur Baghdasaryan the sole way out is to strengthen the Armenian Armed Forces. Arthur Baghdasaryan finds that it’s necessary to continue the negotiating process and try to find the key to peace.

Simultaneous attempts of penetration by the Azerbaijani subversive groups were recorded between 23:50 and 00:15 on January 19-20 in the north-eastern (Jraberd) and south-eastern (Korgan) directions of the line of contact of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing armies.

The Press Service of the Defense Army of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic informed “Armenpress” that the front units of the Armed Forces of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic noticed the actions of the Azerbaijani subversive groups and started an organized defense in both directions. The rival was thrown back suffering palpable human and material losses.

Junior Sergeant Armen L. Hovhannisyan died from the wounds he received during the exchange of fire in the north-eastern direction.

An investigation has been launched to reveal the details of the incident.

On 20 January Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan signed a decree on awarding posthumously NKR Defense Army’s N division's junior sergeant Armen Hovhannisyan for bravery shown during the defense of the NKR state border with the "For Courage" medal.

On January 28 soldier Karen G. Galstyan (born in 1994) was killed by an Azerbaijani sniper in the military position of the Defense Army of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic located in the Northern direction. Karen G. Galstyan died from a lethal gunshot wound he received in the area of his head. The Press Service of the Defense Army of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic informed “Armenpress” that an investigation has been launched to reveal the details of the incident.
