Adam Schiff urges United States to stop supporting Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, JANUARY 23, ARMENPRESS. Representative Adam Schiff in an exclusive interview with Asbarez Editor Ara Khachatourian on Wednesday discussed death of Karabakh Army junior sergeant Armen Hovhannesyan on the Karabakh-Azerbaijan border, condemning continued Azeri aggression against Armenians and shed light on this month’s announcement by President Barack Obama that envisions Little Armenia within a national program called the “Promise Zone.” As reports “Armenpress”, Schiff also discussed efforts to secure the exhibition of the Orphan Rug, an update on the Armenian Genocide resolution pending in Congress and status of US assistance to Armenia, Karabakh and Javakhk.

Schiff also reflected upon the last meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers and stated that at the course of the recent meeting of the Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers, where they discussed the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, and the Azerbaijani FM expressed his support for the peaceful resolution. “But you can’t say that, if you are condoning and permitting that kind of violence and murder on the line of contact, that there are. When you make a hero out of an axe-murderer Ramil Safarov, you are sending a message to your troops that the murder of the Armenians, the murder of the citizen’s of Karabakh is not only acceptable, but allowable. If they are serious about the peaceful resolution, they must prepare their people for peace, but they are not doing that at all,” Schiff underscored.

Among other things Adam Schiff emphasized that the International community must strictly condemn such a strategy. In addition Schiff noted: “I think we have to stop supporting them, and send a message that this kind of dangerous, provocative and fatal conduct cannot be continued.”

Previously it was reported that the ANCA Executive Director Aram Hamparian stated: "Azerbaijan's latest fatal cross-border attack underscores - painfully and profoundly - the ongoing human cost of the international community's failure to either meaningfully confront or constrain Baku's march toward a renewed Caucasus war." At the very least, this should serve as a wake-up call to Congress here in Washington to cut-off all military aid to Azerbaijan."
