Second power unit of Metsamor to pass stress-test in 2012

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 16, ARMENPRESS: Ensuring safety of the Armenian Atomic Power Plant is one of the priorities of the Energy and Natural Resources Ministry, minister Armen Movsisyan told the reporters today.

With the request of the Government of Armenia, months after the accident in "Fukushima", the international group of experts from International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) visited Armenia last year and checked the safety of Armenian atomic power plant. The group has presented proposals for the improvement of the safe exploitation of the plant.

With the decision of the EU all the atomic plants operating in its territory must pass stress-tests – evaluation of safety level of nuclear units.

"In this respect our prior issue is organization of stress-test of the 2d power unit of Metsamor in 2012. It is a very important for the safety of the plant and Armenia," the minister said.
