Emergency Situations Ministry plans to have firefighting helicopter

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations is expecting to receive 22 Japanese and 26 Russian fire engines, Minister Felix Tsolakyan told reporters.

He said they will solve the aerial firefighting issue jointly with the Defense Ministry.

“This year the number of fires was unprecedented, we had 3000 more fires. The existing equipment remains but there must be additions. Naturally, we must get ready for next year’s potential fires. And we are waiting for a new batch – 22 Japanese vehicles and 26 Russian vehicles,” Tsolakyan said, adding that if they receive the supplies in time they will be rather well equipped.

Tsolakyan said the ministry will have a firefighting helicopter also.

He said they are working in this direction jointly with the Defense Ministry in order to avoid unnecessary expenditures.  “Financially it is inexpedient to have it individually for the Ministry of Emergency Situations”.
