‘I call on not to stay indifferent and consider unacceptable Turkey’s actions’- Speaker Mirzoyan

‘I call on not to stay indifferent and consider unacceptable Turkey’s actions’- Speaker Mirzoyan

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 15, ARMENPRESS. In his remarks at the 130th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan called on all parliamentarians to raise their voice of concern over the situation in Syria. The Speaker urged not to stay indifferent and consider unacceptable Turkey’s operations in Syria and demanded to immediately stop these actions.

“At this moment, when we are sitting at the hall of these plenary sessions, one of our member states, Turkey, is carrying out a military operation in Syria’s Kurdish-populated territories. Hundreds of peoples have been killed within several days, and tens of thousands of others have been displaced. Today people in Qamishli and other cities of Syria are under danger in the same way as it was in the Armenian-populated town of Kessab in 2014.

These disasters are taking place in the same place, the same geographical space where the remnants of the victims of the Armenian Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire 100 years ago are in the soil and sand.

And I, as a representative of a nation who witnessed and survived one of the greatest tragedies of the 20th century, that crime against humanity, call on all parliamentarians to voice their alarm on the situation in Syria”, the Speaker said.

He also called on the members of the Assembly to take actions. “I call on the Inter-Parliamentary Union as an organization not to remain indifferent, consider unacceptable Turkey’s actions and immediately urge to stop it”, he said.
