My Step Foundation awards scholarships to students accepted to global leading universities

YEREVAN, AUGUST 30, ARMENPRESS. 54 young people who have been accepted to the world’s leading universities received scholarships today from the My Step Foundation in a ceremony at the Yerevan Matenadaran.

Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Arayik Harutyunyan, My Step Foundation and City of Smiles Charity Foundation Board of Trustees President Anna Hakobyan – the spouse of the Armenian PM - were present at the ceremony.

Minister Harutyunyan noted that the students have the chance to open a new chapter in their lives, where they will obtain new knowledge and skills for a lifetime.

“It is good that this kind of foundations exist which first of all support our youth and second of all our state, because at this stage of reforms we mostly need the kind of professionals who will have the skills to create and analyze, will have new knowledge and success in innovations. This is important for the Republic of Armenia. The state, in turn, is making certain efforts, but our partners are also assisting on this path,” he said. Harutyunyan said they will consider the possibility of expanding the program in the future.

Anna Hakobyan emphasized that she is proud of the young people who enrolled in the leading universities of the world.

In her remarks she reminded how her My Step Foundation got involved in the program.

“After the revolution the Luys Foundation, which was providing scholarships to Armenian students who enrolled in various universities worldwide, halted its operations. My Step Foundation was established to fill in this gap. Last year we were able to provide students with scholarships very quickly and in a crisis situation,” Hakobyan said.

She said Armenia is awaiting the students’ return to their homeland with hope that they will use their knowledge to develop their country.
