Armenian government wants to provide monthly financial support to Chernobyl “liquidators”

YEREVAN, AUGUST 29, ARMENPRESS. Armenian veterans who have participated in the elimination of consequences of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear power plant disaster in Soviet Ukraine will be entitled to monthly financial support by the government, documents posted online at e-draft.am showed.

These 800 people include both military and volunteers who were sent to the disaster zone.

Currently the Chernobyl “liquidators” are receiving the same rights as other military servicemen – i.e medical insurance and free holiday package and certain services.

300 of the 800 are civilians.

The bill developed by the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs will have to pass a Cabinet meeting and parliament for final approval.
