Wildlife Rescue Center opened for captive bears in Armenia

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 14, ARMENPRESS. At the initative of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets FPWC, captive bears in Armenia will be re-located to a Wildlife Rescue Center, which was opened in Urtsadzor.

The foundation’s PR manager, Vahagn Tevosyan, told ARMENPRESS the center is equipped with all conditions for the bears to be close to nature and not interact with humans. The facility can house nearly 30 bears.

Tevosyan said the 2 ha center has a clinic, a quarantine area and others.

According to him, captive bears have serious health issues. Bears which were kept in entertainment facilities have deteriorated health state due to the overall conditions and irregular diet.

The law on wildlife is expected to be amended, which will specify the rules of keeping wild animals in captivity.

The FPWC has launched a massive bear rescue program.
