Iranians celebrate Nowruz on March 21

YEREVAN, MARCH 21, ARMENPRESS. Iranians are among the few nations in the world who have their own New Year which is called Nowruz, meaning new day. They celebrate Nowruz on March 21 with special ritual. Nowruz has been celebrated by people from diverse ethno-linguistic communities for thousands of years.

Expert on Iranian studies Vardan Voskanyan told “Armenpress” that many Iranians prefer to spend their holiday in different countries, as well as in Armenia.

“Many Iranians prefer Armenia. This is very important for Armenia from tourism development perspective. Armenia as well hosts Iranians in a proper manner. Various agencies organize a series of events for Iranians. Most of Iranian people prefer Armenia since it is a close country, moreover, they like Armenians’ hosting approach. Of course, there are minor problems, but in general, the impression is positive”, he said.

For Iranians Armenia’s being secure is very important factor. Of course, there are some shortcomings. Many Iranians, who come to Armenia with their own vehicles, raise the issue of roads, especially that part coming from Meghri.

“In this sense if we complete the construction works of North-South corridor, if there are tourism infrastructures, we can ease the tourism flow in Yerevan directing them to other cities. Armenia also provides Iranians a chance to visit Georgia. If there is a flow in the opposite direction, it will significantly boost Armenia’s tourism development”, Vardan Voskanyan said.
