YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 17, ARMENPRESS. Russia’s State Duma’s committee tasked to adopt the bill on ratifying the agreement on creating a regional unified air defense system in the Caucasian region of the Collective Security with Armenia, RIA Novosti reported.

“Under the agreement it is planned to crease a unified regional air defense system, as a component of the unified air defense system of CIS member states”, the attached document of the bill reads.

The main purpose of the regional air defense system is organizing and implementing air defense military duty in the Caucasian region of the Collective Security, maintaining the combat system and the equipment of the air defense troops and hardware in constant stand by, cooperation with other regional air defense troops of other systems.

The agreement is signed for 5 years, with a possibly of extending it for another 5 years.

As stated in the document, the agreement is fully in line with Russia’s interests.

“The initiation of it will allow raising the reliability of protecting the borders of Armenia and Russia, as well as defining the rules of engagement of the air defense troops (forces) during joint implementation of military duties”.
