Armenian President receives Secretary General of World Customs Organization

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 18, ARMENPRESS. President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan received Secretary General of the World Customs Organization Kunio Mikuriya on October 18.

Greeting the guest, the President of the Republic assessed his visit to Armenia as a demonstration of consistency by the World Customs Organization in supporting Armenia’s reforms in customs services. Serzh Sargsyan highly appreciated Armenia’s cooperation with the organization and hoped that the visit of the Secretary-General will further deepen and strengthen the partnership, as well as will give an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness of reforms carried out by Armenia in the recent years.

As “Armenpress” was informed from the press service of the Armenian President’s Office, President Sargsyan wished success to the works of “The application of the one-stop-shop principle in the context of the WTO agreement on trade facilitation” European regional workshop in Yerevan.

According to Kunio Mikuriya, holding the workshop in Yerevan is explained by the fact that the World Customs Organization has for years been engaged in reform implementation in Armenia and there was a desire to present Armenia as an exemplary country for neighbors.

The interlocutors discussed opportunities of further cooperation development between Armenia and the World Customs Organization, the results of the reforms in Armenia’s tax sphere assisted by the organization, including improvement of legislature, modernization of border check-points, investment of e-systems, cadre training and works in a number of other directions.
