YEREVAN, MAY 5, ARMENPRESS. Davit Babayan, spokesman of the Nagorno Karabakhi President, says the Armenian Government’s decision to send the bill on recognizing the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh to the Armenian Parliament is considered important in Stepanakert. He said this is the beginning of the recognition process by Armenia, which of course may last for years.

“However this is a very important step for strengthening stability and peace in the region and reviving the negotiation process, which is almost in a dead-end,” Babayan said.

He also added this is a message to Azerbaijan and the outside world, that in case Azerbaijan starts a war, there will be no alternative for Armenia to recognize the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.

The Government of Armenia has approved the draft conclusion of “Recognizing Nagorno Karabakh Republic” draft law, which was presented by MPs Zaruhi Postanjyan and Hrant Bagratyan. Deputy Foreign Minister Shavarsh Kocharyan said: “The approval of the draft law by the Armenian government is connected with the results of discussions between Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh, taking into account further developments, including external factors.”
