Armenian Church presented as Afghan Church in Azerbaijan

Armenian Church presented as Afghan Church in Azerbaijan

YEREVAN, MAY 3, ARMENPRESS. 4th century Armeinian church, located in the Kiş village, Azerbaijan, is presented to tourists as an Afghan church. According to several sources this small church has 1-4 centuries of history. It is the oldest church in the region. It was not destroyed since the descendants of Armenians live in the village who forced to change their religion during the Armenian massacres in the past century.

Before the Soviet Union only Armenians were lived in the village. Today three Armenian churches still exist in the Nukhi city the one of which is located in the Armenian cemetery. However, today this church is also presented to tourists as an Afghan church.

Today the descendants of Armenians living in the village visit the church and keep it as God’s home.

The church has been restored by the financial assistance of Norway. Unfortunately, Azerbaijanis removed the Armenian notes in the dome of the church during the restoration. Currently it serves as a museum.
