North-South Electric/Energy corridor formation map signed in Yerevan

YEREVAN, APRIL 13, ARMENPRESS. A meeting was held between the Ministers of Energy of Armenia, Russia, Iran and Georgia which was devoted to the regional cooperation in the electric/energy sector. According to ''Armenpress''the meeting that was scheduled to be held in Georgia, was held in Armenia with the participation of the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia Levon Yolyan, the Minister of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexander Novak, the Minister of Energy of Georgia Ilia Eloshvili. At the end of the meeting the necessary road map for the formation of the North-South Electic/Energy Corridor initiative was signed.

According to the Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Armenia Areg Galstyan the signed document is important since it marks the schedule of actions and the persons who will bear the responsibility.

"Until 2019 we will have the power transmission lines: the construction of some of its parts have already started, and that of the other parts will start in the nearest future in order to have a real picture of the regional cooperation in the energy sector", said Areg Galstyan. He also added that in case of smooth operations the power transmission lines will be already used from 2019. According to the Deputy Minister in case of the project implementation it will be possible to supply electric/energy seasonal exchanges, as well as an exchange.

"Armenian-Iran port 400 kV line works started and there are no financing problems. By the end of 2018, the line should be put under voltage and it is planned to reach the energy flows south direction up to 1200 MW. What relates to the north towards Georgia, we have already selected a consulting company which prepares a tender package, from which we will select the general contractor who will carry out the project. There are funds for two phases, we will construct the line and substations", Areg Galstyan mentioned.

The quadrilateral project is planned to put in operation Armenia-Georgia 400/500 kV power transmission lines and power substation by the end of 2018 until the beginning of 2019. As a result, work opportunity will be provided in the asynchronous mode in line with the energy system of Georgia and the exchange of electric/energy power will reach up to 350 MW in the first phase until 2021 reaching up to 700MW.

Until the mentioned period, it is planned to put in operation also Iran-Armenia 400kV power transmission port line. It will allow to reach the exchange of electric/energy to 1200MW power with Iran.
