Germany turned to Turkey for using Turkish Incirlik military base

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 2, ARMENPRESS. Germany’s government turned to Turkey for using Incirlik military base against terrorist organizations in Syria. As “Armenpress” reports, Hurriyet newspaper informs about the aforesaid.

The German cabinet has approved on December 1 a mandate offering military assistance in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) in Syria. According to the mandate, the German armed forces will provide aid in the areas of military reconnaissance and logistics by making available reconnaissance satellite and reconnaissance planes as well as tanker aircraft.

That's following the cabinet's decision Tuesday to deploy up to 1,200 soldiers, six Tornado reconnaissance jets, tanker aircraft and a frigate to support the international coalition fighting IS.

The military package still requires approval from the Bundestag, lower house of the German parliament. If approved, as expected, the mission would become Germany's largest overseas deployment of troops at the moment.
