Azerbaijan suspends negotiations with EU: Reaction to EP resolution

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 11, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan will reconsider its relations with Europe.

“Armenpress” reports that the statement issued by the press service of Azerbaijan MFA informs about this.

“Azerbaijan cancels the visit of the delegation of the European Commission to Baku for preliminary discussions in the framework of the agreement on strategic partnership with the EU because of the preconceived resolution of the European Parliament on Azerbaijan adopted on September 10”, reads the statement.

The Azerbaijani MFA responded in this way to the resolution adopted by the European Parliament yesterday which calls for imposing sanctions (even political) on official Baku for harsh human rights violations.

Moreover, Baku openly accused the European Union in “anti-azerbaijanism” and “anti-Islamism”.

“Overall, for “anti-Azerbaijani” and “anti-Islamic” trends we must reconsider our relations with the European Union”, reads the Azerbaijani MFA statement.

A number of “prominent” Azerbaijani officials made absurd comments on the resolution of the European Parliament.

The Assistant to the President of AzerbaijanforSocial and Political Affairs Ali Hasanov announced “AzerTac” that “the European Parliament has lost the sense of reality”.

The Chairman of theAzerbaijani Parliament's Committee on Legal Policy and State Building,Ali Huseynli told APA that “European Parliament’s call for sanctions is funny”.

Headof theEuropean Union Delegation in Azerbaijan, Malena Mard, was summoned to Azerbaijan MFA in connection with the resolution on Azerbaijan adopted by the European Parliament.
