Mamikon Khojoyan’s case sent to European Court of Human Rights

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 10, ARMENPRESS: With the support of "AgainstIllegal Arbitrariness" NGO,Mamikon Khojoyan’s family has appealed to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), ExecutiveDirector of "AgainstIllegal Arbitrariness" NGOLarisa Alaverdyan told Armenpress. She said that they work with families, who have appeared in similar situations, by providing legal advice and assisting in social and health issues.

Resident of Verin Karmiraghbyur village, 77-year-old Mamikon Khojoyan crossed the Armenian-Azerbaijani contact line on January 28, 2014. He had certain mental disorders and lived alone. The Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan claimed that Khojoyan was part of an Armenian commando squad that attempted to carry out a cross-border incursion.An interview with Mamikon Khojoyan was posted in the Azerbaijani mass media violating the Geneva Convention on hostages. During the interview it turned out that Khojoyan’s hand was broken. Mamikon Khojoyan died more than two months after returning home from captivity in Azerbaijan with serious injuries.
