conflict through peaceful means

YEREVAN, AUGUST 2, ARMENPRESS. The Russian Ambassador to Armenia Ivan Volinkin does not think that the current escalation of the situation in the conflict zone will grow into large-scale military actions. On August 2, during a brief conversation with the journalists, the Ambassador stressed that the issue should be resolved not by military intervention, but exclusively by peaceful means.

"I do not think that the situation will lead to large-scale military actions. We are concerned about the situation, because the issues cannot be solved through military means. A truce and ceasefire regime should be established soon, and the parties should negotiate," said the Ambassador, adding that official Moscow is of the opinion that the issue should be resolved exclusively through peaceful means.

On July 31, the rival attacked military positions of one of the military units located in the northern direction of the line of contact of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing armies. Facing an organized resistance of the military position’s personnel, the rival was thrown back to the primary positions suffering numerous losses. Unfortunately, two serviceman of the Karabakh Defense Army were killed in the result of the operation. An investigation has been launched to reveal the details of the incident.

The rival initiated another sabotage and reconnaissance act in the North-Eastern direction (Martakert) of the line of contact of the Karabakh-Azerbaijani opposing armies in the night of August 1-2. The front units of the Defense Army detected the advancement of the rival’s Special Forces in time and the rival was thrown back to the primary positions suffering human and material losses. The Azerbaijani side suffered at least six casualties and seven injured and left special weaponry and other technical means on the site of combat. Unfortunately, the Armenian side has also recorded a loss. Serviceman Zorik Zh. Gevorgyan (born in 1989) lost his life bravely defending the motherland.
