Robert Sahakyants' memorial to be erected in Yerevan

YEREVAN, MAY 31, ARMENPRESS. "Armenian Vector" cultural foundation urges to participate in the creation of Robert Sahakyants' memorial. In a conversation with "Armenpress" Robert Sahakyants' son – Davit Sahakyants stated that they are informed about the initiative of the foundation and express their gratitude to all individuals involved in the project.

The monument will be erected according to the sketch developed by Davit Minasyan. It will be a tree-shaped monument with the characters created by Robert Sahakyants on its branches. Also the monument will function as a unique fountain. The monument is scheduled to be erected in Vernisage, Yerevan.

The master of the Soviet Union & Armenian animation Robert Sahakyants was born in 1950 in Baku. Since 1964 Sahakyants lived in Yerevan, Armenia. Starting from 1970 he worked in the animation sphere, and since 1972 - as a director. Robert Sahakyants created more than 150 cartoons, including films for BBC (UK), ORT(Russia), STS (Russia), "Red apple" (USA), "Rooster" and Yantzfilm (France), Studio "Christmas-Films" (Moscow). In 1987 he received the title of Honored Artist of the Armenian SSR. In 2008 he became a People's Artist of Armenian Republic. Robert Sahakyants died in 2009.
