About 700 missing people registered since Artsakh liberation

YEREVAN, JUNE 29, ARMENPRESS: Nagorno Karabakh faces over 700 missing people since Artsakh liberation. At the briefing with Armenpress reporter NKR State Committee Chairman on prisoners of war, hostages and missing persons Victor Kocharyan stated that more than 400 of them are civilians, military servicemen make 200. The interlocutor stressed that there are no prisoners of war in the area of NKR.

The number of the missing people is being checked, as the number of missing people from Shahumyan is not yet defined. The data of the Commission and Red Cross( RCIC) differ, as the it happens that the relatives of the missing people sometimes prefer applying  to the Court than to the Commission and Committee.

Currently the works are done to determine the exact number of missing people from Shahumyan district, which is not an easy task to carry: the former Shahumnyan residents are displaced and dispersed in CIS countries. According to the info of ‘’Shahumyan-Getashen" union the number of the missing people is about 500-700.

Pursuant to the data of Red Cross International Committee the overall number of the missing people from both Armenian and Azerbaijan make 4000-5000. Operating from 1992, RCIC has contributed to the process of repatriation or transfer of captured people. The committee helped about 700 people to return to Armenia, who as prisoners were kept in Azerbaijan.
