YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 8, ARMENPRESS: Turkey must come into terms with its history just like Germany did it during the post-war period, Chairman of the European Parliament Martin Schulz said at the meeting with the Turkish Minister of EU Affairs Egemen Bagis, Armenpress reports citing AFP.

"My best advice to Turkey will be to come into terms with its own history as only in that case it will be possible to build the future of the state," Schulz said.

In his words, his homeland, Germany, too had complicated history but it treats its history with sensitivity till now.

"You must allow free investigations connected with what happened in 1915 and if the investigation shows that what happened in 1915 is genocide, you should admit it," Schulz said.

Referring to the process of adoption of the bill by France criminalizing denial of genocides, chairman of the European Parliament said he is aware that such laws have many advocates in the EU, and he respects the decision of the French parliament.
