Azerbaijan needs to publicly confirm recognition of Armenia's 29,800 km2 territorial
integrity - FM

YEREVAN, JUNE 5, ARMENPRESS. Armenia expects the Azerbaijani top leadership to publicly confirm that it recognizes Armenia’s territorial integrity with a 29,800 square kilometer area, otherwise Armenia will continue to be concerned that Azerbaijan has territorial claims against it, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan has said.

He made the remarks in parliament when asked by MP Gegham Manukyan (Hayastan faction) to comment on the fact that the Azerbaijani President hasn’t publicly declared that he recognizes Armenia’s territorial integrity with 29,800 square kilometers.

FM Mirzoyan said that despite the Azeri leader hasn’t publicly declared this, the summit with his participation concluded with the statement of President of the European Council Charles Michel, which mentions that the two countries recognize each other’s territorial integrity, and the size of territories is mentioned by square kilometers.

“And Azerbaijan hasn’t denied this. The same took place during the following meetings. And I hope the Azerbaijani top leadership will announce the recognition of Armenia’s territorial integrity with these very words. Naturally, Azerbaijan isn’t objecting, it claims to recognize Armenia’s territorial integrity. The mentioning of these numbers was an additional clarification mechanism. This hasn’t been denied by Azerbaijan, but there is a need for a public confirmation. Otherwise we continue to be concerned that Azerbaijan, with its policy, has territorial claims against Armenia,” FM Mirzoyan said, mentioning Azerbaijan’s invasion of Armenia in September 2022, the invasions that happened before, as well as the recent incursion in Tegh village.
