By 2030 at least four Armenian universities to be included in world top 500 list – education minister

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 4, ARMENPRESS. The government’s 2030 education development program seeks to significantly transform the higher education system in order for it to become internationally competitive, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Vahram Dumanyan said in parliament while presenting to lawmakers the bill on approving the 2030 Education Development Program.

“Events promoting the education-science partnership and internationalization of Armenian universities are envisaged for this goal. Internationally accepted unified licensing and accreditation standards will be defined for all universities based on infrastructures, total area, management, student-lecturer ratio and other criteria. Unified tools for ensuring quality will be introduced. An equal competitive arena for universities will be created, opportunities for foreign language teaching in all levels of higher education will be expanded and equal conditions will be created for educational programs taught in both Armenian and foreign languages,” Dumanyan said.

5 to 8 universities with full government funding (without ruling out the possibility of tuition-based education) will be created by 2030.

“Through providing targeted state support to a specific number of Armenian universities, an opportunity will be created to significantly improve positions in international competitive conditions. As a result, in 2030, at least 4 Armenian universities will be included in the top 500 universities by international rankings,” he added.
