Qatar to organize boxing, wrestling training camps in Armenia

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Karen Giloyan held a meeting with the President of the Qatar Boxing Federation (QBF)Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani who is visiting Armenia for the International Boxing Association (IBA) congress.

“We’re ready to discuss any circle of cooperation for the benefit of developing sport in our countries. Joint camps, exchange programs and seminars can contribute to creating and enhancing sport connections between our countries,” Giloyan said.

Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani thanked for the reception and said that he is impressed by what he saw in Armenia.

“You have a wonderful country with necessary infrastructures for developing sport. We visited the [Olympic Village] Olympavan, the Tsaghkadzor Sport Complex, we reviewed the conditions. Everything was wonderful. We plan to organize training camps for our boxers and wrestlers in Armenia,” he said.

The Qatar Boxing Federation recently signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Boxing Federation of Armenia, and a similar memorandum is planned to be signed with the Wrestling Federation of Armenia too.

Armenian and Qatari boxers will hold joint training camps as part of the cooperation. Seminars, training of coaches and referees and exchange of experience is also envisaged. Sheikh Fahad bin Khalid Al Thani said they will consider Armenia a primary country for holding training camps for national teams of all age groups.

He also praised the high level organization of the IBA congress.
