International community must condemn Azerbaijan's aggression – Greek governor issues statement

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 20, ARMENPRESS. Giorgos Patoulis, Governor of Greece’s Attica region, issued a statement strongly condemning the aggression of Azerbaijan against Armenia, the Embassy of Armenia in Greece said on social media.

The statement says:

“Respecting the rules of the international law is the only way of solving the disputes between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

The New Launch faction of Attica and I personally, as the Governor of Attica, condemn any violence regardless from where it derives, as well as all those who take that step for solving their disagreements.

Especially when the talk concerns the disputes between countries, they must respect the norms of the international law and the international contracts and agreements which are the only acceptable way for solving their disputes.

Azerbaijan’s new invasion to Armenia, just a year after the end of the war and the signing of the ceasefire agreement between them, in addition to unjustified loss of hundreds of human lives, is also an additional threat to the security of all countries in our region, which is already tested by the ongoing war conflict in Ukraine. Europe cannot accept and cannot tolerate another war clash on its borders.

The whole international community, particularly the western world and the EU, but also the countries that have signed the ceasefire agreement of the previous conflict as a guarantor, must condemn Azerbaijan’s aggression, stand by Armenia, force to respect the rules of the international law.

If any tolerance is demonstrated against violence and arbitrariness, it could lead to a new vicious closed chain of war conflicts, involving other countries which want to push forward their interests through war and instability.

It’s a time of responsibility for everyone, but also it’s the right moment here in Greece and Attica, to express our undivided support to the brotherly Armenian people”.
