German MP terrified at Erdogan's decision of reverting Hagia Sophia into mosque
17:33, 13 July 2020YEREVAN, JULY 13, ARMENPRESS. Member of the German Bundestag Albert Vayler strictly condemns the decision of reverting Hagia Sophia into mosque. ARMENPRESS reports Vaylet mentioned in his announcement that this decision of the Turkish authorities is a provocation and insult for the entire Christian world.
''I am terrified at the news that this huge cathedral of the Chrisian world, which is included in the UNESCO World Heritage list, has now turned into a mosque at the request of Turkish president Erdogan. This is a provocation and insult for the entire Christian world'', he said.
The German MP also questions the reasonability of holding talks with Turkey on EU membership. ''The behavior of the Turkish government is in no way in line with the European values’', he emphasized.
Turkey’s top administrative court on Friday annulled the 1934 government decree that turned Hagia Sophia into a museum, paving the way for Hagia Sophia to be reconverted into a mosque.
