Wildfire burns near Athens, Greece
YEREVAN, AUGUST 12, ARMENPRESS. A powerful wildfire is burning at the foothills of Mount Hymettus near Athens in Greece.
The Civil Defense agency of Greece said police are evacuating residents of Peania, a small town near the area.
Since August 10, local authorities have issued a Level Red fire danger because of +40 degrees Celsius heat and strong winds. Despite preventive actions, 59 individual wildfires took place on August 10.
42 fire engines with 133 firefighters have been dispatched to Peania to tackle the fires.
