YEREVAN, JANUARY 22, ARMENPRESS. The Armenian Apostolic Church celebrates St. Sargis feast day on January 23 this year. The feast day in Armenia is not only celebrated by a church service, prayers, but also folk traditions. St. Sargis the Captain is the patron of youth. On the day of the feast young people pray to the saint asking him to make their prayers audible to God. St. Sargis is the saint that makes the love longings come true. On the eve of the feast, young people eat salty cookies hoping their future bride or bridegroom will give them water in their dream.

How to make salty cookies?

You will need:

Flour - 1 cup

Salt -1 tablespoon

Water

Take the flour, mix it with salt. Add water to make solid dough. Make pellets of the dough, then flatten the pellets with a rolling pin. Place the cookies in the oven and cook them till they become pinky.

There is also another tradition connected with St. Sargis feast day worthy to mention. On the night preceding the feast of St. Sargis the faithful people place a tray full of gruel before the door believing that while passing near their door at dawn St. Sargis’s horse will leave its horseshoe imprints on the gruel symbolizing the fulfillment of their dreams.
