Armenia’s community to present to France’s President its position connected with the Armenian bill

YEREVAN, FEBRUARY 2, ARMENPRESS: The representatives of all streams of the French Armenian community will be present at the meeting with the President of France Nicolas Sarkozy. Speaking to Armenpress, head of the ARF Armenian Cause Office Hrach Varzhapetyan said the meeting is expected on the second half of the day, February 2.

"Issues relating to the bill penalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide, possible decision of the Constitutional Council will be discussed," Varzhapetyan said.

The goal of the meeting is to coordinate the common activity. Solutions connected with the bill will be proposed at the meeting.

The bill criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide was adopted January 23. It envisages one year of imprisonment and 45 thousand euros' fine in case of denial of the Armenian Genocide. It has been presented for the ratification of the President of France, but a group of senators applied to the Constitutional Council of France to appeal the bill.
