Armenian police have arrested eight people in an operation targeting an alleged drug trafficking network that operated through Telegram channels, the Interior Ministry said.
The operation led to the seizure of 2.61 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, as well as additional quantities of methamphetamine and cannabis plants. Police also found AMD 8.188 million and $4,500 at the residences of the suspects.
According to the Interior Ministry, officers from the Yerevan Criminal Police Department’s Division for Combating Drug Trafficking received operational information that a group of people were selling drugs through Telegram channels they operated.
Acting on the information, police conducted round-the-clock surveillance operations at the suspects’ places of residence, which led to the arrests and seizures.
The preliminary investigation is continuing.
Police said they would continue targeted efforts to combat drug trafficking and neutralize drug distribution networks.
