Football executive, coach wanted by National Security Service for match fixing

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 4, ARMENPRESS. A football executive and a coach are wanted by Armenian security services in suspicion of match fixing, the National Security Service said in a news release.

According to the NSS “a representative of the executive staff of FC Masis and one of the coaches have pre-determined the outcome of the Torpedo-Yerevan vs. Masis football match as a result of coordinated actions in exchange of bribes and ensured the victory of Torpedo Yerevan…” The match took place 06.09.2019.

According to the NSS a bookmaking company sustained large damages as a result of bets made by several people regarding the outcome of the match.

A criminal case was opened in the Department of Investigations of the NSS.

The NSS said it gathered sufficient evidence to charge and declare wanted the suspects.

It also said the circumstances will be conveyed to the Football Federation and UEFA for “determining the circumstances which contributed to the crime and to rule out similar occurencses in the future”.
