Ruling bloc MP’s resignation formalized

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 12, ARMENPRESS. Ruling bloc MP Edgar Arakelyan’s duties were formally terminated today in parliament following his resignation.

Speaker Ararat Mirzoyan announced the termination and said a notice has been sent to Central Electoral Commission Chairman Tigran Mukuchyan, as required by law.

Arakelyan, a lawmaker from the My Step bloc, tendered his resignation on August 30th.

Arakelyan said in a statement published on his Facebook account that “the decision is exclusively mine, it hasn’t been imposed or incited by anyone”.

He said the reasons for stepping down are personal.

Probably to avoid possible speculations he especially noted that neither the Amulsar mine issue nor the potential ratification of the Istanbul Convention have anything to do with his decision.

He described the time within the ruling bloc as an “honor”, and apologized to those who might get disappointed over his resignation.

“A person dealing with politics must have required qualities for engaging in politics. I am deeply convinced that I lack several highly important of these qualities, which makes me incompatible with this activity”, he said.
