YEREVAN, AUGUST 7, ARMENPRESS. Minister of Defense of Armenia Davit Tonoyan held a meeting on August 7 with representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Armenia delegation led by head of mission Claire Meytraud, the Ministry of Defense said in a news release.
The sides discussed ongoing issues of cooperation between the ministry and the International Committee of the Red Cross Armenia delegation, as well as opportunities for raising the efficiency of partnership and upcoming steps.
They also discussed the recent growth of tension at the Nakhijevan section of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Expressing concern regarding the threats to the lives and health of civilians and property, Claire Meytraud expressed readiness to conduct a pilot program together with Armenian authorities in one of the more vulnerable communities aimed at risk reduction, which implies the construction of protective walls at local schools, kindergartens and areas which are frequently shelled and implementation of awareness raising campaigns among the population.
The sides also discussed issues related to discovering the fates of those missing as result of the NK conflict, as well as coordination of work between the ICRC and the Armenian Commission on Captives, POWs and MIAs.
