Pashinyan rules out mass layoffs in state sector

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. According to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan the bill on amending the governmental structure that implies optimization in the public administration system has been understood by the society.

“I addressed this issue yesterday in parliament also, but I find it noteworthy to once again emphasize that our main objective is to increase the efficiency of state administration, including raising the efficiency of relations with the Diaspora, because today we already see very serious gaps in both directions and very serious problems,” the PM said during today’s Cabinet meeting.

“We will proceed in this direction through a very balanced and calm path and I want to say that we will not have the so called staff slaughter in this process,” he said, referring to rumors on layoffs.

“Indeed, cuts will take place, but these cuts will happen within the logic of evolution and each public servant, each staffer of these ministries will have their chance,” he said. The PM said there will be a maximally objective performance assessment for employees.

Pashinyan said experts from the ministries themselves will be involved in the process.
