Number of tourists visiting Armenia increases by 186% in 5 years

YEREVAN, JUNE 8, ARMENPRESS. 298 thousand and 533 tourists visited Armenia during the period of January-March, 2017, which is an increase of 18.2% against 2016. “Armenpress” reports, citing the data released by the National Statistical Service of Armenia, in January-March 266 thousand and 324 people left Armenia for touristic purposes. The number has increased by 17.1% against the same period of 2016.

In January-March of 2012 104 thousand and 374 tourists visited Armenia – a 9% decline against the same period of 2011. In the same period 120 thousand and 50 people left Armenia for touristic purposes. The number increased by 1.9% against the same period of 2011.

The comparison of the number of the tourists who visited Armenia in January-March of 2017 and 2012 shows that the number has increased by 186% or 194 thousand and 159 within 5 years. At the same time the number of Armenians leaving the country for touristic purposes rose by 120 percentage points during the 5 years.

According to the reports receives from hotels, 26.1% of tourists who visited Armenia during the first quarter of 2017 came from CIS participant countries, 14.2% - EU member states and 59.7% - other countries.
