YEREVAN, MAY 3, ARMENPRESS. World Press Freedom Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in December 1993, following the recommendation of UNESCO's General Conference. Since then, 3 May, the anniversary of theDeclaration of Windhoekis celebrated worldwide as World Press Freedom Day.
Various events and discussions are held worldwide on May 3 regarding the protection of freedom of the press, evaluating press freedom indicators in the world as well as honoring journalists and reporters who lost their lives while on-duty.
The leading countries in terms of press freedom are Norway, Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, Denmark, Iceland, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg, Andorra and Finland.
