Best Armenian wines to be served during ‘Wine Days’ in Yerevan

YEREVAN, APRIL 6, ARMENPRESS. One of the streets of Yerevan city will be transformed into a wine-tasting venue.

Wine lovers will be able to taste the best Armenian wines.

Wine Days will be held May 5-6 in Yerevan, organized by Areni Festival Foundation.

Nune Manukyan, founder of the foundation, told ARMENPRESS this kind of an event is held in Yerevan for the first time.

“The event has a tourism nature, we aim at making it traditional, targeting the tourism market of various countries, namely the Russian market. This year great numbers of tourists are expected from Russia due to the May holidays”, Manukyan said.

The event will kick off May 5 at 19:00, and the opening ceremony will last until 23:00.

The section of Saryan Street, which lies between the Tumanyan intersection and Pushkin intersection, will be closed for traffic.

Separate booths will be installed along the street, where winemakers will present various kinds of wines.

Different restaurants also take part, serving side dishes for wine tasting.

“Our goal is to present the history of wine, the culture of Armenian wine, make it recognizable in the international gastro tourism, attract many tourists and present Armenia as the cradle of wine”, Manukyan said.

The foundation has been actively cooperating with tour operators in order for the Wine Days to be included in tourism packages.

The event will be accompanied by a concert program. On the first day, May 5, a jazz and rock concert will be held, and traditional Armenian music will be performed on the second day.

The event is being organized jointly with the City Hall.

The foundation will also organize the traditional Areni festival this year as well. This year it will be held on October 7. The festival will begin one day earlier in the Rind village and then in the Areni village.

Manukyan said tour operators have already responded, namely from Germany, Georgia, Italy and asked to send the list of events of this year.
